Sleepy – Free, Feature Rich Application to Automate Shut Down Tasks
With Sleepy you can set up automated tasks. You can set Sleepy to turn off, restart, or lock the computer. You can also set up Sleepy to automatically log off the current user. You can instruct Sleepy to do any of these tasks at on specific days or during specific intervals of days. For example every day, every Sunday, every Satruday and Sunday, every Monday though Friday, and so on. Sleepy will perform the task you selected at the time you specified.
Here’s an example of what you can do with Sleepy. Every Monday through Friday, at 11PM, the computer will shut down. Simple, right?
If you’re using Sleepy to monitor your child’s computer usage for example, here’s one extra feature that Sleepy provides: “Prevent computer use for 8 hours after shutdown time.” You need only check the box from the Options menu to enable this feature.
If you want to ensure your child spends only a certain amount of time in front of the computer, Sleepy comes with a countdown feature. Start the countdown and when the time runs up, the computer shuts down, loggs of the current user, or simply restarts.
Sleepy is password protected. If you take the time to set up a password, no one apart from your can stop Sleepy. Anyone but you can play with Sleepy’s settings.
Sleepy can find out what the current date and time is in one of two ways. It can simply take a look at the computer’s date and time, or it can connect to the internet and get the time and date from the web. This way no one can fool Sleepy by changing the computer’s clock.
Sleepy can be configured so that any changes to its settings are:
- applied immediately;
- applied only after the computer restarts.
There are some programs built into the Windows operating system that can be used to disable Sleepy – like for example the System Configuration Editor (msconfig.exe), Registry Editor (regedit.exe) or Date and Time control panel.
Sleepy also comes with a handy screen saver feature. The Sleepy Shut Down Screen Saver will turn off the computer if it is left unused for a certain amount of time.
Sleepy provides language support for English, German, French, Spanish and Portuguese (Brazil).
You get all the functionality presented above for no charge whatsoever because Sleepy is now freeware (it used to cost money at one point).
